It&rsquo;s the energy wheel that&rsquo;s activated at birth. It channels the flow of energy downward through the feet and connects us to the earth. This chakra is activated when you come into the physical world.<br /><br />    Color &ndash; The root chakra vibrates to the vibrant color of Red.<br /><br />    All of the chakras spin clockwise and the root chakra grounds us to this world and spins the slowest.<br /><br />    It establishes access to all we need for physical survival, safety and security.<br /><br />    If you have concerns about money, career, your job, where you live, if you have enough food, enough clothing, furniture, any material items, your root chakra will develop dark spots from the fears these negative thoughts create.<br /><br />    In the body it covers the bones, the blood, the immune system, the colon, the rectum, the legs and the feet. When you&rsquo;re not balanced in the first chakra &ndash; the root &ndash; you may develop difficulties with these areas of your body.<br /><br />    You&rsquo;ll know that this chakra is balanced by the fact that you seldom worry about your safety and security. You usually expect the best in life and you usually get it. You wouldn&rsquo;t even consider otherwise. You feel you&rsquo;ll always be provided for and always be protected, no matter what circumstances suggest.<br /><br />    With a grounded root chakra you are calm and easy going and have an aura of quiet strength and confidence about you. You will also be reassuring to be around and give this energy to others.<br /><br />    An Imbalanced Root Chakra:<br /><br />    You will feel vulnerable, threatened, even doomed. You will be fearful of everything in life. You may feel that there&rsquo;s a limited supply of resources. Any feeling of lack in any area shows an imbalance of the root chakra.<br /><br />    It leaves a person feeling insecure and anxious, struggling with feelings ranging from mild uneasiness to full-blown paranoia. You won&rsquo;t feel connected to the Earth or to Spirit. You won&rsquo;t feel comfortable in your own skin.<br /><br />    People who have an imbalanced root chakra find it a tremendous struggle to meet life&rsquo;s basic needs. Since they focus on struggle, they attract more challenges to their lives.<br /><br />    People will often overcompensate to balance this chakra by exaggerating the focus on survival. Everything potentially threatens your sense of safety and survival.<br /><br />    You become aggressive and take on a &lsquo;me first&rsquo; attitude without regard for anyone else&rsquo;s feelings. You&rsquo;re not thoughtful of others and become very selfish. You will become pushy, manipulative, and greedy. <br /><br />    You will worry excessively about money and your sense of safety and security. An imbalanced root chakra will cause you to disconnect from others, feeling isolated and self-conscious, no sense of belonging to family, friends or community. You&rsquo;ll be suspicious of others and feel that the world is not a safe place.<br /><br />    Symptoms might include being nervous, filled with anxieties, feelings of abandonment, not feeling welcome, not being worthy, unwanted and afraid.<br /><br />    Rather than trying to get control of the outer world it&rsquo;s better to ground your inner world. Learn what calms you, makes you feel safe and secure regardless of the conditions of your outer world. Once you make it a daily practice to focus upon these qualities you&rsquo;re on your way to balancing the root chakra.<br /><br />    Ways to ground your Root Chakra:<br /><br />    -Take care of your body<br /><br />    -Massage and pamper your feet<br /><br />    -Eat healthy foods <br /><br />    -Be around supportive friends and family<br /><br />    -Avoid abusive relationships and jobs<br /><br />    -Bring live things into your environment such as plants and pets. The routine necessary in caring for plants and animals creates a grounding effect.<br /><br />    -Obtain any psychological therapies necessary for your emotional and mental well-being.<br /><br />    -Help keep your home clean, organized, welcoming and comfortable.<br /><br />    -Take responsibility for your life and needs instead of looking to others to provide it. Become more self-reliant.<br /><br />    Diet will affect your chakras because it breaks down into energy in your body.<br /><br />    Foods that influence the root (red) chakra are:<br /><br />    Red meat<br /><br />  Animal fats<br /><br />  Coffee and colas<br /><br />  Pepper &amp; hot spices<br /><br />  Spinach (because of the iron in it)<br /><br />    If your root chakra is overactive, avoid these foods. If it&rsquo;s under active, add these foods to your diet.<br /><br />    If your root chakra is overactive, you may overeat as the need to feel safe and nurtured becomes distorted. You may crave foods high in sugars and fats in order to quench the feelings of danger, survival, nervousness or anxiety. You may also drink alcohol or take drugs to diminish feelings of insecurity, paranoia or vulnerability.<br /><br />    If the root chakra is under active you may choose to leave the body altogether instead of fighting. Some common effects of this retreat are depression, chronic fatigue, excessive daydreaming, delusions, anorexia, chain-smoking and mental illness.<br /><br />    To balance an overactive root chakra you can use this statement or affirmation:<br /><br />    &ldquo;I am perfectly balanced. I am safe and secure. I am grounded and my root chakra is in perfect harmony&rdquo;.<br /><br />    Any meditation, prayer, kindness or generosity will quickly balance an overactive root chakra.<br /><br />    If your root chakra is under active do the following visualization:<br /><br />    Imagine the red orb of your root chakra swirling clockwise at its perfect speed, about four inches in diameter and bringing energy of vigor and vitality into your body. When you imagine the red color, visualize it as a ruby-red color with sparkles of white light. Follow with this statement:<br /><br />    &ldquo;I have a loving body to use for creative expression. I know it is a gift from God and take responsibility for its care. I am safe in my body. My root chakra is open and balanced and bringing me positive energy.&rdquo;<br /><br />    Ask yourself the following questions to discover how balanced your root chakra is:<br /><br />    1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Do you worry about your survival such as having shelter and enough food?<br /><br />  2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Do you feel grounded?<br /><br />  3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Do you feel insecure and unsafe in the world?<br /><br />  4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Are you sometimes afraid terrible things will happen to you?<br /><br />  5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Do you feel alone as if you&rsquo;re disconnected from others?<br /><br />  6.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Are you a needy person?<br /><br />  7.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Do you feel unsatisfied, paranoid, or suspicious of others?<br /><br />  8.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Are you overly concerned about money or control?<br /><br />  9.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Do you feel you don&rsquo;t deserve good things?<br /><br />    If you answered yes to any of the above questions you need to balance and clear your root chakra.<br /><br />      Things that can trigger an imbalanced root chakra:<br /><br />    -&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; An unsettling past where you didn&rsquo;t get a stabilized environment<br /><br />  -&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Changing or losing your job<br /><br />  -&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Getting married, divorced, new relationship, breakup of relationship<br /><br />  -&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Moving to a new home<br /><br />  -&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Losing a loved one through death or separation<br /><br />  -&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Going back to school or embarking on a new career<br /><br />  -&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Losing a pet<br /><br />  -&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Relocating to a new state, province or country<br /><br />      Balancing your chakras is an ongoing routine. Bring more energy and love to your root chakra by taking special care of your body, especially your legs and feet. Do things to calm and balance your emotions by listening to pleasant music, spending time in nature and through meditation and prayer. Create order in your life and get support from family, friends and by talking to the angels and your guides. Be honest and ethical in all areas of your life. Also be kind toward yourself and others.<br /><br />    Begin today and you will definitely see and feel the rewards of a balanced root chakra. Wear red more often, have red objects in your surroundings, get a bloodstone and keep it close to you.
